強調整體時，謂語動詞用單數(shù)

強調個體時，謂語動詞用復數(shù)

如：My family is happy family.

    My family are so busy getting ready for Spring Festival.

類似的詞還有：

二、police類名詞作主語（用復數(shù)）

如：The police are looking for the lost child.

    這類名詞還有：people, youth, personnel, cattle等等

三、形復義單

1. 學科：physics, mathematics, electronic, economics

   如:   Electronics is a piece of cake to him.

2. 疾病：mumps(腮腺炎), measles(麻疹)

3. 書名、報刊名、國家名

如:《the Great Expectations》 遠大前程

　 《Times Weekly》 時代周刊

　　United States

4.  運動項目：parallel bars 單杠

四、單復數(shù)同形

    fish, deer, sheep, headquarters, crossroad, barracks, Chinese, species, works, means等等

如：There is a sheep on the grass.

　　There are three sheep on the grass.

五、度量、價值、距離、時間表示整體概念時用單數(shù)

如：One hundred years is not long.

　　Where is that five dollars I lent you?

六、就遠原則

    with, together with, along with, as well as, rather than, but, except, besides, no less than

如：The boss rather than his employees is to blame.

七、就近原則

    neither…nor…, either…or…, not only…but also…

如：Neither the teacher nor the students love the novel.

　　Neither the students nor the teacher loves the novel.

如：To see is to believe.

　　The husband and wife 夫妻（單數(shù)）

　　The husband and the wife 一個丈夫和一個妻子（復數(shù)）

　　The secretary and manager 書記兼經(jīng)理

　　The secretary and the manager 書記和經(jīng)理

八、one of…., many a, one and a half, more than 后用單數(shù)

如：Many a girl likes swimming.

　　One and half years has passed.
